Gathering reference

To find a decent place to start, I looked up different artist interpretations as well as general renaissance bedroom scenes and scenes from staged version of Othello, and made a moodboard. This would help me find a way forward and make a decent start.

In the above painting by Alexandre-Marie Colin, a book can be seen on the ground by Desdemona's hand, perhaps this is a bible, another item I could include.

Then I found some images for the scene with Desdemona and Emilia. This one below is called A Death-Song of Desdemona by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and it depicts Emilia helping Desdemona get ready for bed by brushing her hair. Desdemona sits on her bed with a hand mirror, in front of a small table with a box full of her jewellery. In the background it appears there is a statue of Jesus, and perhaps Othello's weapon and a shield, along with a candle.

Below are paintings done by Ludovico Marchetti illustrating scenes from Othello:

I then collected renaissance furniture that I would most likely have in my two scenes.

I picked the above objects by referring to the furniture seen in the film, play version and in paintings. As well as googling Italian renaissance furniture and seeing what kind of things would be in a typical bedroom.
